Masters Class A and B Elementary Education
My name is Shaterra Miller. I am a 4th Grade teacher at Riverton Intermediate School. I am also a wife, mother of two sons, a mother-in-law and grandmother. I have many other titles and roles in my family and place of worship. Other than spending time with my family and going to church, teaching is one of my greatest joys!!! I had a passion for teaching at an early age. so being able to do so is a self-fulfilling prophecy. I believe that it was all part of God's purpose and plan and definitely my call of duty. I did try other occupations before teaching, which led me to realize that I wasn't happy doing any of them, though I am thankful for the experiences. They fueled me to pursue my degree in Education and I obtained both my Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Alabama A & M University with Academic Honors and no regrets, only sorrow for not having my mom and maternal grandmother on Earth to witness my accomplishments.
After 16 years in the field of education, I can honestly say that I still enjoy engaging in teaching and learning experiences, bonding with my students, working together with colleagues and parents to ensure that children are equipped with not just academic skills, but social and life skills that are essential for a lifetime. I encourage students to strive for excellence and to always do and be their best. Teaching comes with many intangible rewards. It's not easy, and some days it can be challenging, demanding and overwhelming. However, my strength is renewed each day and I see every day as a new day, a new opportunity to do something good and pleasing to God and to make a difference in the life of a child.
