“The test of a good teacher is not how many questions he can ask his pupils that they will answer readily, but how many questions he inspires them to ask him which he finds it hard to answer.” Alice Wellington Rollins, in Journal of Education (1898) In STEM education, teachers need to teach beyond mastery of content because students need to be innovators, learn from their failures, and keep trying. They need to cut across disciplines and be able to ask the questions that help build connections; to be lifelong learners and be driven by an intellectual curiosity to try to figure things out.
