Mrs. Amy Mason

During my nineteen years in public education, I have worked as a teacher, assistant principal and principal.  I taught students in grades 1-4 in Arizona, Indiana, Virginia and Maryland.  As an assistant principal, I worked for Howard County Public Schools in Maryland and at Chapman PK-8 in Huntsville. My husband and I relocated to Huntsville in 2012 and have fallen in love with the area and most especially the people. Since I’ve been here I have served in administrative roles within the Huntsville City School System, as Principal of Goldsmith-Schiffman Elementary School for two years, and have been honored to serve as the principal at Madison County Elementary School since 2015.I have enjoyed many personally and professionally satisfying experiences, and high among these was the opportunity to lead two schools through all phases of becoming Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence.

I am proud to say that Madison County Elementary School has become a community learning center during my tenure. We have partnered with the CARE Center to provide a grant funded 21st Century Learning Center after school program, extensive summer programming provided by a SAIL grant through the Community Foundation in Huntsville in conjunction with the Heart of the Valley YMCA, expanded elective offerings during the school day for our middle school students such as Chinese and STEM/Robotics. Our school has also focused our work on positive behavioral interventions and supports combined with social emotional learning strategies to help meet each child's basic needs so that academic needs can be addressed.  All of these partnerships have allowed our school to help better meet the needs of the whole child during the school day and beyond. My variety of experiences in public education have helped me to see the impact that strong collaboration between the principal, staff and parents can have on student success.  I enjoy fostering these relationships at Madison County Elementary School!
