Laura Houk

After graduating from Sylvania High School, I attended Northeast State Community. In 2001, I obtained my Bachelors in Elementary Education from Alabama A&M University, and in 2003, I completed Masters in Instructional Media from Jacksonville State. University.

I began my career in education in 1998 working as an Instructional Assistant at Henegar Junior High School while I attended colloege to obtain my bachelors degree. My first teaching job was as an itinerant teacher in the Indian Education program at Dekalb County Schools. After obtaining my masters, I became a K-12 librarian at Ider High School for seven years. When I married and moved to Huntsville in 2010, I was fortunate to become the librarian at MAdison County High School.

In addition to my two degrees, I also have certification in Secondary English Language Arts. In 2014-2015, I was named the MCHS Teacher of the Year.

Im married to Eddie Houk, and we have a sweet blended family of 3 grown children and two beautiful granddaughters. I enjoy traveling, reading, running, working out, yoga, and spoiling my grand babies.
