I love the age group and the material that I get to teach in ninth grade. I'm passionate about reading and writing, so my job is important to me on many levels. I truly believe that my students need the skills learned in my classroom to help them become successful adults. Not only do I ask them to think critically about whatever they are reading, but I expect them to be able to write intelligently about it as well.

In real life, almost everyone is expected to be able to read, analyze, and write effectively. Although I'm asking them to do so through literature and nonfiction, these skills can help them when they are asked to read college textbooks, when they decide to read a website for information, or when they are reading instructions about putting something together.
