My name is Tandy Shumate. I am the administrator of the Madison County Virtual Academy (MCVA). The 2020-2021 school year will be our fifth year of offering a non-traditional learning environment for the students of the Madison County School System (MCSS). I am excited that this year, we will offer virtual learning to grades 3-6 as well as continue with grades 7-12.
MCVA is rapidly growing in our school system. Five years ago we started with a pilot group of 35 students, our second year we finished with 105 students, in 2018-2019 school year, over 270 MCSS students utilized our program. In 2019-2020, we had 404 students enrolled.
Virtual learning is the new way of learning for many of the MCSS students. Students that participate in our program remain students in our school system and can still participate in their zoned schools athletic programs, band, and JROTC.
MCVA is an exciting new journey for many MCSS students, and I hope to share with you all of the amazing opportunities that MCVA students can have in our program.
