Gene Hans Velez
In 2014, Ms. Velez relocated to Madison due to family military assignment. She fell in love with the place and plans on retiring here. In her profession, she has always believed that each child is unique, has his own potential and can achieve his goals if given the proper guidance. Very creative and self-motivated, she incorporates a wide variety of learning activities to match each child’s personality, cognitive ability, and academic strength. Outside school, she enjoys hosting parties, event planning, traveling, baking, cooking, reading, dancing, swimming and motorcycle riding.
Presently, she serves as Board Member of the Madison City Disability Advisory (MCDAB).
Her varied teaching experience are as follows: Collaborative Teacher at Discovery Middle School in Madison, AL. She was a 9th grade Transition Services, Collaborative Teacher in Huntsville City Schools in Huntsville, AL. She has served as 8th grade Inclusion, RELA Teacher at Dr. Ernest Just Middle School, Prince George’s County in Maryland. She was also Special Education Coordinator, Reading Lab 9th and 10th grade in a Self-Contained Class and Inclusion Teacher at the Hospitality Public Charter School, Washington, DC. She handled English, Literature and World History, 9th grade at Sunrise Academy, Washington, DC, and has taught intermediate level in a Self-Contained Class at the District of Columbia Public School, Washington, DC.
Ms. Velez holds the distinction of having three masteral degrees: Masters in Special Education (US equivalency); Masters in Management from the Liceo de Cagayan University; and Juris Doctor from Xavier University, Ateneo de Cagayan. She likewise holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Xavier University, Ateneo de Cagayan. She obtained a Diploma Course in Special Education at the Mindanao State University for Science and Technology as well as Continuing Studies in SPED at the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, while earning 25.3 credit hours at Auburn University’s Transition Academy in Alabama.
