Tandy Shumate

My name is Tandy Shumate. I am the administrator of the Madison County Virtual Academy (MCVA). The 2019-2020 school year will be our fourth year of offering a non-traditional learning environment for the students of the Madison County School System (MCSS). I am excited that this year, we will offer virtual learning to grades 3-6 as well as continue with grades 7-12.

MCVA is rapidly growing in our school system. Three years ago we started with a pilot group of 35 students, our second year we finished with 105 students, and in the 2018-2019 school year, over 270 MCSS students utilized our program. Virtual learning is the new way of learning for many of the MCSS students. Students that participate in our program remain students in our school system and can still participate in their zoned schools athletic programs. This year we will have our first MCVA graduation!

MCVA is an exciting new journey for many MCSS students, and I hope to share with you all of the amazing opportunities that MCVA students can have in our program.
