    Grades 9-11 Blended Learning Information
I hope that everyone is doing well during this difficult time as we all work to return to our normal lives as soon as we possibly can.  I know that I speak for the staff at NHHS when I say that we truly miss our students and the opportunity to serve them every day. I hope that everyone is able to find balance in their lives as we play the hand we’ve been dealt the past several weeks and what we will face in weeks to come.

I want to be clear when I say that the most important thing for our students as we close out the school year is their social and emotional well being. I can’t stress enough that I want everyone to know that we are available and ready to help in any way that we can. We will post a list of all of our teachers with their email addresses for you to refer to as needed. I also want you to know that you can call 2-1-1 and you will be directed to a help line if you need assistance during this difficult time. My email is dmanning@mcssk12.org. Please reach out to me if needed.

I am going to go over several pieces of information that will be beneficial to both parents and students for the remainder of the school year.

    What are the academic expectations?
Each student is expected to continue to be engaged in learning through the end of the school year, which is May 22. This will look different for each student.  Our district has created weekly lessons for our students to continue to be engaged in learning. These lessons focus on the standards for each core subject that we were not able to teach in the traditional classroom due to the school closure.

How do I  find the lessons provided?
Beginning this week (4/13) lessons are posted on the district website at mcssk12.org, our school FB page, Canvas, Google Classroom, or emailed to the students on their school email account. Some students requested that hard copies of the lessons be mailed to them. These learning packets will be mailed on Wednesday, 4/15.  It is important that students check their school email, class Canvas page, or Google Classroom on a daily basis. If you are having trouble connecting with your core class teachers please email me.

    Will this be graded?
As many of you have heard me say before, learning the content standards is far more important than the grade, and I can’t say that loud enough for the remainder of the school year. Students are encouraged to participate and communicate with their teachers on a daily basis. This work will not be graded but it is vital to each student's education moving forward.

    What is my grade?
The grade that you had on your 3rd nine weeks report card will be your grade for the 4th nine weeks. If you failed the 3rd nine weeks, then you will be given the opportunity to recover that grade this nine weeks. Your teacher will be in contact with you if they have not done so already.

    What about AP classes?
AP teachers have been communicating with their students for several weeks now. If you have not been communicating with your AP teacher please let me know and I will make sure you get connected with them. AP exams will still take place this year and all AP students are required to take the exam.

What if I don’t have a device or internet?
A survey was posted for parents to fill out to assess the needs for each student. Some Chromebooks  have already been given out for student use during this time. If you are still in need of a Chromebook, please email me and I will arrange a time for pick up.  We have a limited number of hot spots that will be available later this week. These will be prioritized for students with the greatest need. Let me know if you need this service.

What to expect from teachers during this closure?
Teachers will have Virtual work hours from 10:00-1:00 each day. During this time they will be available for you to contact via email or however the teacher communicates with their students. Please allow 24 hours for teachers to respond to your emails.  Each homeroom teacher is also expected to connect with their homeroom students through Google Meet or email at 10:00 AM each Thursday. This is simply a time to check in and make sure all needs are being met. I encourage each student to participate so we can hear from you.

I realize that this is a lot of information but it is important that you know the expectations for everyone involved.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
    Thank you,
    David Manning
