Hi everyone. I'm Denise Nelson and I LOVE teaching Science and Social Studies!!! I've been teaching since 1995, and 27 years have been in the Science classroom. I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Educational Technology and Curriculum Design. I graduated from the NASA Space Educator Training Program and was awarded the “Right Stuff” Award at the graduation ceremony. I have also completed the American Geoscience Institute’s Earth Science Teacher Leadership Academy in Houston, Texas. I am also on the Smithsonian Institute’s Science Educator’s Consortium. I am married to my best friend, Rick Nelson. We've been married for 36 years. We have the best "misadventures" together. We have never taken a vacation or trip that didn't include some kind of "misadventure." Even though we always have crazy misadventures, we LOVE traveling, going sailing, rockhounding, and restoring old automobiles. In addition to all of these hobbies, I am a part-time photographer for my niece’s photography business… Looking Glass Studios Photography by Ashley Robinette. We have one son, Ryan Andrew, who is married to his high school sweetheart -Ainsley. We also share our home with a 20 year old, short-haired, tortoise shell (shorty torty) diva cat with special needs.
