Throughout my four years at Buckhorn High School, I took six AP classes, and as a recent graduate, I have already experienced the advantages of taking part in the AP program. The course materials covered in each class prepared me for a multitude of different things, including the ACT and college application essays. While the curriculum was definitely challenging, it taught me how to manage my time, how to study properly, and the list goes on.
Each class required a good deal of work to be done, but, long term, the rewards outweighed the struggles. Also, my teachers were always sources of support and motivation. In my own personal experience, the teachers I had for all of my AP classes wanted to see my success just as much as I did.
I took part in Varsity Softball all four years of my high school career, and every year, our Area, Regional and State Tournaments took place during the same time period of AP exams, so I was always stuck taking the makeup exams for all of my AP classes. Even though most took place after school had let out for the year, my teachers came and supported me, even if I was the only student left. They stayed throughout my entire exam, and some even brought me breakfast or lunch, just to give me their final bits of encouragement.
I will forever appreciate the perseverance, motivation, and many other lessons Buckhorn’s AP program and teachers taught me, about both my education and life itself.
